Trainer Update: 15th February 2024

Updated: Apr 12

Olly Murphy's team thrives with more wins this week, boasting a 35% strike rate. Exciting prospects at Sandown and Haydock await. No runners for Noel Williams, while Dan & Claire Kubler gear up for upcoming races. Rebecca Menzies shines with Harper Valley's victory, setting a strong pace for the weekend. Camilla Poulton faces mixed results but remains optimistic about her runners' progress.

OLLY MURPHY

Winners:

12th February: Pickanumber @ Catterick

13th February: Clonakilty @ Lingfield

Placed Runners:

13th February: Dominic’s Fault 3rd @ Lingfield

13th February: Henrysbrotherjack 4th @ Lingfield

Olly’s yard continues to go from strength to strength with a further string of winners to add to their tally this week.  They are now boasting an impressive 14-day strike rate of 35% and are showing no signs of stopping just yet! Pickanumber and Clonakilty are the 2 additional winners this week amongst a number who also placed respectively.  This afternoon Olly sends out a further 3 runners to Sandown each of which with a decent chance – Made for you, Gunsight Ridge & Little Miss Dante who lines up the Grade 2 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at 2.30pm.  Over the weekend he’s got a host of runners heading out to various courses including potentially 2 chances (Itchy Feet & Butch) in the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday.

NOEL WILLIAMS

Noel has had no runners so far this week to report.  This weekend he looks set to run Haston Clermont at Wincanton on Saturday for owners Burkes & Syders.  A nice horse who has been in solid form with his last 3 runs reading 1-1-2.  This race is a step up in Class but he was a course and distance winner here last month and hopefully, he continues to go well for Noel and his team.

DAN & CLAIRE KUBLER

Dan & Claire have had no runners this week so far but have a couple of upcoming entries over the coming few days.  Today they look to line up Wild Saffron at Chelmsford in the Restricted Maiden for Fillies over 6 furlongs.   She looks to be a consistent mare who has placed on her last 2 runs, so hopefully it’s not long before she gets her head in front. She heads back to Chelmsford where she ran well a month ago, and today she takes a drop back in trip, which hopefully will suit.  Tomorrow they run Al Rufaa at Wolverhampton and Arctic Dawn holds an entry at Kempton on Sunday.

REBECCA MENZIES

Winners

12th February: Harper Valley @ Catterick

Placed Runners:12th February: Had to be Hugo 4th @ Catterick

12th February: Tom Cody 2nd @ Catterick

12th February: The Churchill Lad 2nd @ Catterick

Team Menzies had a busy start to their week on Monday with 7 runners lining up at Catterick.   A mixture of results but a lovely winner in the mix – Harper Valley, ridden by Ross Champman.  It could almost have been a treble on the day with 2 close 2nds in Tom Cody & The Churchill Lad each of which were beaten by under a length each!  A really nice run of form for the yard and fantastic to see them doing so well after a slightly quieter January.  This weekend they’ll be sending out a huge number of runners up and down the country both over jumps and on the all-weather, long may their successes continue over both codes.

CAMILLA POULTON

Camilla has had 3 runners so far this week 2 at Lingfield on Tuesday and Military Decoration for Gold & Green Crowd at Kempton last night.  She reported on her social media that “conditions were horrendous and D’Ambonnay did not enjoy that mud from the word go.  He’s such a big baby this horse and we knew it would take a few runs for the penny to drop but that is definitely starting to happen and his jumping is immaculate and professional…We know his ultimate aim is to be chasing which he will go next season, but right now he’s learning how to travel and race, getting better each time.” And Military Decoration (Dec) put in his usual gutsy performance last night with plenty going wrong but ultimately wasn’t beaten far (just over a length), a popular horse who always tries hard and gives his all.
